Index Card #11

http://history.howstuffworks.com/european-history/top-5-marie-antoinette-scandals.htm
THIS IS GREAT WEBSITE !!! IT HAS ALL OF HER MAIN SCANDALS VERY VERY VERY DETAILED!! I love this website. SO much great information. It does not bore you by saying what everything source can give which is her birthday, where she lived and what every single other website has to offer. Gets to the point and explains it very well. Main points:
-Her death was execution
-the crowd was happy
-people wanted to see her wiht fear and cowardly in the end but she was bold to the end
-the executioner had cut of her head of first and ordered her to don a threadbare white shift
Top 5 scandals:
5. "Let them eat cake"
-it is said that she supposedly said it when peasents where starving without any bread to eat, but there is no evidence that she actually said it
-And the expression isn't as callous as it may sound. From an economical standpoint, it was a perfectly logical thing to say
4. Diamond Necklace Affair
-Jewelers Böhmer and Bassenge nearly went broke creating a necklace that they presumed King Louis XV would buy for his mistress Madame du Barry.
-but unfortunetly he died before he purchased the necklace
-they were hoping that the new king Louis XVI would buy it
-Surprisingly, Marie Antoinette declined the offer and told Louis XVI that he would better off if he put it aside for French navy
-more of the whole story behind and how marie antoinette got to the entire blame for it
3. The Deed with the Sweed
-very good detailed explanation on her affair. go back to it
2. The Brick Wall in the Bedroom
-no kids with husband problem
-detailed explanation
1. The National Wardrobe
-explains her spending life and lavish behaviour on clothes, jewelry and everything
